Abstract: In this paper sporae dispersae of the Cannanore lignites have been described. For taxonomic purposes we have made use of the rules of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature. It was necessary to create some new genera and several species, because our forms do not agree with most of the forms which till now have been studied from the Indian Tertiaries. We suppose that the youngest Tertiary has, till now, not been studied, and that our lignite perhaps belongs more or less to the Upper Miocene or Pliocene while the forms described till now are probably of Lower Miocene.
