Abstract: Fossil woods resembling those of Careya and Barringtonia of the family Lecythidaceae are described here from the Tertiary (Miocene) of Assam. These were collected from the Tipam sandstones near the town of Hailakandi (24°26'N; 92°32'E) in district Cachar. Modern equivalents of these fossils are still found in the forests of Assam.
